ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on how to spend retirement in ways that are satisfying and growth promoting and how to plan. Retirement for them brings blessed relief from the stresses of work. Those for whom work was challenging and growth enhancing might choose to pursue connections with work in retirement, although in different degrees and intensities, or to seek activities which they may have had to defer such as new and stimulating leisure pastimes. The chapter also discusses the many facets of retirement that contribute to wellbeing and satisfaction during this stage of life. Opportunities abound to try out new creative activities, or extend commitment in pre-existing hobbies, through the plethora of classes and interest groups now available to seniors, many of them free or low cost. The chapter also presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book.
