ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book aims at approaching some of the contemporary challenges of language policies and practices and providing examples, based on international empirical research. It offers a brief comparative study of eight officially recognized bilingual educational systems operating in regions of European States. The book explores the process of building a multilingual learning community by establishing educational partnerships with parents in a multilingual preschool setting in Iceland. It examines whether bilingual/multilingual education can help reduce prejudice and increase cultural acceptance. The book investigates the means through which the concept of diversity is implemented in education by focusing on the institutional framework of the curricula in Greek primary school and students’ textbooks in the senior primary school classes. It provides examples of how journal writing can be conducive to the learning process within a foreign language context.
