ABSTRACT

Numerical analysis of free convection in the air-filled square enclosure with an inclined finned plate at the angles of 45° and 75° is performed using ANSYS Fluent 15. Temperature contours and flow visualization were investigated. The finned wall is at a constant higher temperature than the sidewalls, while horizontal walls are insulated. Different scenarios were investigated for Rayleigh number 104 to 106 and value of Prandtl number is 0.71. The study shows the effect of several parameters aspect ratio A, Rayleigh number Ra and La on streamlines, temperature contours, and Nusselt number. Thermal buoyancy is responsible for flow inside the cavity or enclosure, which is represented by Ra. Complete domain has been investigated for analysis purpose. The investigation shows the augmentation of heat transfer from the heated surface to the cold surrounding. Numerous engineering applications such as building cooling, heating, ventilation, and 526flow pattern analysis of electronic cooling devices, and so forth, require an in-depth understanding of convection flow and heat transfer. Therefore, free convection has been extensively used to transfer residual heat from the fins attached at low cost, high durability, and reliability purpose.
