ABSTRACT

This chapter continues with the themes of training content and delivery, as well as timing and dosage, which influence socialisation in addition to other factors; it will now look at these themes from the angle of training impact. The previous analysis repeatedly pointed to the dominant assumption that knowledge causes behavioural change. The extent to which this has taken place has been tested in form of two different case study exercises: With participants of the United Nations–African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) Police Pre-deployment Training at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) and with former trainees of the in-mission Conflict Management for Peacekeepers Training at the African centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD). Given that training effectiveness should not be based on participant numbers, this chapter aims to look into how training courses at KAIPTC and ACCORD had an impact on their participants.
