ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the key things that athletes need to do to hone their skills and provides a set of questions that guides supervisors to develop the necessary skills, knowledge and attributes to be effective in the role. The chapter outlines how to set up quality supervision, discusses the first meeting and introduces the notion of conducting an intake process as a platform to develop the supervisory relationship. It goes on to provide a useful framework in setting up the process and structure of supervision, use of key supervision documents and the importance of the supervisory environment. The chapter introduces the PASE model of supervision and provides a number of key templates for use in supervision.
