ABSTRACT

Metaphoric communication in the group setting can be extremely complicated for both experienced as well as novice clinicians. As such, Chapter 6 provides the mental health professional with a complete guidebook for work in both individual and group therapy sessions. The Art of Anger Management provides a choice of skills to accommodate either short-term therapies (from 8 to 12 weeks) or long-term groups (more than 40 weeks) at the therapist’s discretion. Whether the client is an adolescent or adult, whether they function at a low or high level, this guidebook will assist with the expression, management, and understanding of anger and consequent feelings. In all, this guidebook allows each client to begin the process of learning how to hold painful thoughts and feelings in balanced awareness rather than over-identifying with them. This chapter offers the clinician one complete structured art therapy guidebook, successive directives which lend focus to clients’ emotional and intrapsychic issues through collaboration with others, and examples of completed group art directives with interpretive explanations.
