ABSTRACT

The selected papers that follow are placed in the context of recent psychoanalytic interest in the body and of work with challenging children who cannot reflect but have to act, who deal with trauma and anxiety by activity. Case studies include issues of delinquency, gender, sexual abusing, fetishism, violence, neglect and abuse. Consideration is given to matters of technique – pace, counter-transference, moving between developmental and psychoanalytic objects, transitional phenomena – and of early developmental need and history, as well as the formation and role of the ideal ego and the ego ideal.
