ABSTRACT

After exploring existing student competencies and learning outcomes in sustainability programs, this chapter identifies the essential learning outcomes of the SHES approach, the features of the approach with which each learning outcome is associated most closely, and pedagogical strategies that can be used to help students to achieve them. The chapter also presents a rubric that can be used for degree programs, non-degree programs, and individual courses, applying equally well regardless of institutional setting or subject matter context. The stages, phases, tasks, and subtasks of the SHES approach to which the following refers are the stages, phases, tasks, and subtasks described in Chapter 5, this volume.
