ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book reviews the main thrusts of building information model (BIM) as advocated in the literature and proposes a quantity surveying (QS)-BIM execution plan as one of the most significant original contributions. It explores some of the requirements of a QS-BIM which should contain the explicit, detailed information of the high-value cost items as well as more detailed information including the architectural, structural, and building services/finishes information. The book discusses the critical success factors of BIM adoption for QS such as developing the necessary information, compatible with current QS practices, and BIM-based QS solutions. It provides three case studies relating to automated QTO, preparing tendering document, and remeasurement of material quantities. The book describes Simon's bounded rationality as the theoretical underpinning to explain the vogue of big data. It outlines a cost-benefit sharing models, with a view to sustaining BIM in QS business.
