ABSTRACT

The I in the BASICS model stands for Implementation. An important aspect for the team to realize is that some tasks are "just do it" in nature and can be implemented quickly, or at latest the next day. However, many improvements require the action of work done by an improvement team. Many times, this will be done with sub-projects and will take time and resources to complete. When implementing the line, lean consultants start with the Lean practitioner running the line. In the BASICS approach, standard work comes from the job breakdown. The standard work form is primarily designed for the operators and supervisor or anyone else observing the line. It is constructed at a higher level than the workflow analysis (WFA). The process flow analysis is captured in the description of process boxes and listed in the proper sequence on the left-hand side and the labor times come from the sequence of operations on the WFA sheet.
