ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book attempts to overcome the biases and fears about bringing evolutionary analysis back into sociology and, most importantly, about bringing biology into the discipline. It demonstrates that sociology can be dramatically enriched by incorporating all forms of evolutionary analysis into its canon and describes evolutionary sociology that offers mainstream sociology coupled with new forms of ecological analysis and the new methods. The book deals with the challenges posed by biology, sociobiology, and evolutionary psychology to evolutionary analysis in sociology. It reviews that the challenge is more apparent than real because the new evolutionary sociology must address Darwinian selection and the evolution of humans and populations of humans. The emphasis on megasociality is an important one because one of the most amazing feats of humans is the creation of very large societies organizing a very large animal.
