ABSTRACT

The Shingo Prize criteria, as continues to be the case for most recognition programs in the world, was focused on looking for evidence of the existence of improvement programs and the application of generally accepted tools of improvement. Putting principles at the top of the model is what makes the Shingo philosophy unique. Dr. Shigeo Shingo said that principles should be organized into "buckets" or categories. The model helped philosophers to summarize key insights from thought leaders and Shingo Prize recipient companies. Culture touches systems indicating the powerful influence systems have on the behaviors exhibited in the organization. Changing culture is not for the faint of heart. Many people think that a conversation about culture is an entirely separate conversation than a conversation about results but this is an old and uninformed paradigm. Culture infers behaviors and behaviors are influenced by both beliefs and values and the systems that people operate within.
