ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a simple process for improvement called Scientific Thinking. Scientific Thinking becomes a principle by describing it in the form of an action. The principle is Embrace Scientific Thinking. A common problem for leaders trying to Embrace Scientific Thinking occurs when people focus on PDCA as a tool and the principle takes on a purely mechanical process. Leaders who Embrace Scientific Thinking believe deeply in the people who do the work in their organizations and challenge them to explore new ideas. Humble leaders acknowledge the probability that others, no matter their role, race or education are capable of solving problems of all kinds, simple or difficult, technical or human-related. Managers ensure that every associate is educated in the value and tools associated with scientific thinking and have the team and group process skills to make a meaningful contribution to experimentation projects.
