ABSTRACT

Oil/water separation is an important field, not only for scientific research but also for practical applications. Recent development of advanced electrospun nanofiber membranes using innovative materials have provided a new future to revolutionarily improve membrane performance for oily wastewater treatment process. Considering the fast development of this area, this chapter is organized into three sections. The first section describes the electrospinning process for the fabrication of nanofiber membranes. In the second section, superwetting nanofiber membranes incorporated with advanced materials for oil/water separation will be discussed in detail. Particular attention is devoted to the nanofiber membranes with superhydrophobic/superoleophilic and superhydrophilic/superoleophobic surface characteristics. At last, conclusions and perspectives concerning the future development of super-wetting surface nanofiber membranes are provided.
