ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the relationships between the work of campus women’s centers and LGBTQ+ centers and initiatives on college campuses. It reviews some of the philosophical, structural, and institutional factors that shape the relationships between these centers. The chapter also considers ways in which concepts and practices that are central to the work of campus women’s centers represent both challenges and opportunities in women’s centers’ work with LGBTQ+ centers and initiatives. The role of feminism, understandings of gender, collaboration and coalition building, and the meanings of intersectionality are discussed. The chapter concludes with considerations and suggestions for future directions, including acknowledging the complexities that are inherent in this work and the importance of encouraging and supporting dialogue.
