ABSTRACT

The creation of a high-speed rail network in the United States would create thousands of jobs, modernize America's infrastructure, increase travel safety, and reduce CO2 emissions. However, the United States government has not prioritized the construction of a high-speed rail system and American rail infrastructure has fallen far behind the global railway standard. Urban populations in the United States are growing at a rate that is significantly higher than rural ones. One of the biggest challenges that cities will face is supplying options to meet the transportation demands of growing populations. The four most publicized high-speed rail projects under development in the United States are located in California, Florida, Texas, and the Northeast. The California High-Speed Rail Authority is building the first publicly funded high-speed rail project in the United States. Texas Central Partners LLC is a privately owned company that is planning to construct a high-speed rail called the Texas Central Railway.
