ABSTRACT

In this research study, a classroom became a maker space, a missile base became a community art center, and an artist applied her interest in craft, experimentation, and teaching to create an educational farm. The energy embedded in curiosity, aesthetic work, and a temporal epistemology facilitated material shifts in individuals, spaces, and communities. This two-year inquiry produced a set of case studies starting at artists’ homes to explore ideas of blurred boundaries and transformative practices using a new materialist lens (Bennett, 2010; Braidotti, 2011). The research revealed how aesthetic work became a force for individual, physical, and collective change.
