ABSTRACT

The global perspective on MH has expanded the horizon of MH practice and mainstream health care systems and reminded health care providers about their professional mission and ideals. This chapter summarizes the findings and concludes that placing accountability at the center of the cross-sectional governance of humanitarian response allows for the coordination of conflicting priorities and establishes GMH as an integrated humanitarian actor. It outlines the prioritized directions for the future of GMH, and discusses what health care professionals in the United States, according to Pearl, (2017), can learn from global work to reconnect with the fundamental purpose of their profession.
