ABSTRACT

The professional identity of GMH is defined by both MH and humanitarian paradigms. Although humanitarian spirit has always drawn people to help those who are in greater need, in a short period of time, GMH that started as unregulated and fragmented efforts based on good intentions has emerged as a recognized actor of humanitarian action and currently focuses on accountability, quality assurance, and development of holistic cross-sectional approaches. By being in the center of the controversies pertaining to the globalization of the humanitarian movement and proliferation of Western concepts of MH, GMH opened itself to transformative global processes and the associated “war of paradigms” that underscored the importance of establishing an ethical framework to ensure the standards and integrity of practice
