ABSTRACT

There are many things that go into the job of the planning commissioner, including understanding your legal role, doing the homework to prepare to do your job, and having at least a working knowledge base about planning. However, at some point, the gavel must drop and meetings must actually be conducted, and conducted well. They must be run in such a way that the principles that will be discussed in Chapter 7 are respected, citizens are treated fairly, and the credibility and integrity of the commission (and by reflection the local government) are protected. They must also be conducted in such a way that the ethical principles that will be discussed in Chapter 8 are respected. Most important, they must be conducted in such a way that good decisions are made and documented.
