ABSTRACT

The code includes a number of key phrases but does not provide definitions except for “serious crime.” The decision not to provide definitions in the AICP Code is, for the most part, intentional, because definitions and interpretations-of “the public interest,” for example-will depend on the specific context and will most likely change from one context to another, as well as evolve over time. Listed in this section are several instances where the AICP Code, strictly construed, limits significantly the context in which the rule applies. The ethical planning practitioner will examine ways in which a rule of conduct might be deemed applicable even if a plausible argument could be made that a strict interpretation of the rule would render it inapplicable.
