ABSTRACT
You have probably seen something like this in movies: A doctor is explaining a medical situation to his patient's distraught family. The doctor is using lots of complicated words, and the family is getting more and more upset, until finally a family friend jumps in: "She has a bad case of the flu." Everyone understands this explanation; it's direct and to-the-point. And predictably the doctor-the highly trained expert, the person who actually knows the most-ends up looking ineffective and a little silly.
