ABSTRACT

If planners work for a large organization, they may occasionally seek the cooperation of a decision-maker or staff person in another department within the organization, or staff in an agency at another level of government. Private citizens and citizens groups may not fully understand who planners are and what they do. Citizen groups may include general or neighborhood interest groups, citizens' advisory committees, and homeowners' associations. Most of the time, planners deals with these groups will be in the form of meetings held to present information and elicit feedback. Planner’s role at these meetings will vary according to whether they are a government employee, a private-sector developer or consultant, or a nonprofit representative. If planners are a local government planner working with a citizens advisory committee, they may serve as temporary staff to this group, often in liaison with a consultant or people from another agency.
