ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explains citizen a new and deeper perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing America's citizen planners. It highlights the absolute importance of effective citizen involvement in the planning process. The publications of the American Planning Association, Urban Land Institute, Congress for the New Urbanism, and Smart Growth Leadership Institute are very helpful sources of good, practical thinking on new ideas. In addition to new ideas, community planning relies on some proven principles. Citizen can help retain these valuable lessons by building a local planning culture that embodies them. The field of planning is constantly changing, and the most productive citizens keep on new trends, tools, and ideas. Each local government must sort out what parts of each new idea are right for its citizens and businesses.
