ABSTRACT

The urbanizing trend which has produced vast settlements of human beings and reduced the agricultural population to a shadow of its former self shows no sign of abating. Cities continue to break out of their old bounds and invade the “open country” in their quest for lebensraum. Ring upon ring of suburbs continue to be added to what were once single and relatively compact communities. Census figures on population, density, and territorial area… present a picture of massive change and astonishing growth.
