ABSTRACT

Georgia has certainly experienced a period of growth, evident from a number of major economic development "wins" over the last several years. The carmaker has committed to invest $100 million in the new facility, touting a high-test road track and a Porsche enthusiast museum. Tyler Perry Studios, located in southwest Atlanta, has produced more than 16 movies and 5 television shows since 2008 and is expecting a huge expansion. The impacts of these economic development efforts are substantial. Due in part to Porsche, Baxter, and Caterpillar's projects, the state saw the creation of 29,176 new jobs and almost $6 billion in capital investment through headquarters and other targeted industry growth in 2012. And thanks to the Tyler Perrys, vampires, and Ron Burgundys of the world, in fiscal year 2012 the state saw the production of more than 333 film and television projects, employing more than 25,000 Georgia residents and generating over $3.1 billion in economic impact.
