ABSTRACT

There are two models for charrette leadership. In the first model one individual is in charge of the entire project and process, acting as both project manager and charrette manager. In the second model, which is appropriate for large and complex projects, one person acts as project manager and another person acts as charrette manager. The charrette team is a multidisciplinary team of specialists, usually composed of consultants. The primary role of the team is to plan project in collaboration with stakeholders. The charrette manager is responsible for communication with the public throughout the charrette via project website, social media, and local press. For the charrette team to truly serve the community, it must have a good working knowledge of the community's built history. The National Charrette Institute Charrette System strategies at play in the charrette preferred plan synthesis sub-phase are: work collaboratively; design cross-functionally; compress work sessions; and use design to achieve a shared vision and create holistic solutions.
