ABSTRACT

For educators and planners, the charrette provides guidance on how to be advocates for funding and planning for young peoples' concerns. And, one can help youth to get their ideas in motion. As a result of the charrette, the youth have developed many new ideas. In many cases youth charrette participants are the first to explore a planning issue. The kids may be anxious to share their observations and share their vision with adults. This is a sign of a successful charrette. Young people can make their views known in the press or other media, and can become powerful communicators and effective advocates. In addition to creating their own media outreach plan and media materials, young people can develop their own events. They can be spokespersons at public hearings, visit the mayor and explain their position, make videos, and prepare printed materials for the media.
