ABSTRACT
In all of the projects examined here, the greatest density and mix of uses oc-
curs around a central organizing space of discrete size-typically a plaza or
main street. In each example, the space is uniquely designed and creates an
activity center for the surrounding community. Buildings are designed at a
grander, more civic scale and support the space through their collection and
mix of uses.
