ABSTRACT

L.A. Live was designed to become the new central entertainment hub of downtown Los Angeles. It in-

cludes Staples Arena (home of the Los Angeles Lakers, Clippers, Kings, and Sparks), the newly expanded

L.A. Convention Center and Hotel, the 6,500-seat Nokia theater, restaurants, ESPN’s West Coast broad-

cast facilities, Club Nokia, the Grammy museum, 150,000 gross square feet of office space, a bowling

alley, 800 residential units, and 300,000 square feet of retail, health, and fitness space. The entire back

façade facing the plaza is made of low-and high-definition LED screens. The project is best experienced

during a major event, where the energy of the people on the street matches the visual spectacle of the

buildings and signs around them.
