ABSTRACT
Chapter 3 describes that the real number system ℛ is inherited with two important properties, namely order and completeness. The order relation leads to the notion of distance between any two real numbers, which foster a topological structure in ℛ. The main purpose of this and the next chapter is to develop some of these topological properties in a general setting. We begin with the following definitions.
