ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews and collates key features of seven regional competition and consumer law agreements in which small states participate. It identifies the small states that will form the subject of discussion, while discusses the rationale for small states to join regional competition and consumer law agreement. The chapter presents an overview of seven regional competition and consumer law arrangements in the Caribbean region, Pacific region, Africa and Asia, and goes into some detail to describe arrangements. Over the medium term, based on lessons from the proposed regional arrangements, the service provision could then be extended to other priority sectors. Economic Community of Central African States is implementing trade facilitation programmes, including the construction of one-stop border posts that are becoming more frequent in the region. The Bahamas became the thirteenth member state of the community on July 4, 1983, but not a member of the common market.
