ABSTRACT

Falcon (1978) attempted to review the application of coal petrology to classify coal cuttability in South Africa. He emphasized that in terms of horsepower required to break the lithotypes with continuous miners, fusain required least power, vitrain required twice as much as fusain, clarain three times as much, and durain seven times as much.
