ABSTRACT

Goal setting is a necessary element of recovery. Without goals and dreams, something to look forward to, trauma survivors and people with addictions seem to wallow in their own misery with no direction in life and nothing to look forward to achieving. It’s like walking through a forest with many paths and no map. Goals need to be specific, measurable realistic and timely. This chapter walks the client through experiential goal setting exercises to determine what will give the client a sense of purpose, fulfillment and ultimate joy.
