ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on meditation, the practice of focusing a person’s mind on the breath, a mantra or simply sitting quietly and letting go of thoughts. This exercise is critical for people with addiction and trauma because this population suffers from rapid acceleration of thoughts, feelings and behaviors, where the mind races in all directions and it is difficult to stop. The One Mindful skill in DBT guide us on how to reduce multi-tasking and work toward focusing on one task at a time. This chapter includes a guided meditation which reflects the skills of DBT using hypnotic language which speaks to the subconscious and helps the client focus on the benefits of using DBT skills.
