ABSTRACT

People who are passive and have difficulty asserting themselves, often feel if they are too demanding and aggressive it will ruin the relationship. To help a person become more assertive and feel comfortable, use the Dialectical Behavior Therapy GIVE skill. It may seem counter-intuitive, but some people will respect us more when we speak up for ourselves instead of constantly giving in to what other people want. This chapter of experiential exercises concentrates on interpersonal effectiveness, how to speak to other people and how to identify behavioral styles in people to know how to communicate more effectively.
