ABSTRACT

This chapter is about resilience; the human capacity to face, overcome and even be strengthened by adversity. It explores “I am, I have, I can” as well as the DBT skill of Willingness over Willfulness. The capacity of people to be willing to participate in life despite their fears, foibles and indiscretions. The experiential exercises help the client realize their strengths and how they have already overcome some adversity by being willing to come to treatment or seek counseling.
