ABSTRACT

The role a child plays in the family has a profound influence on the child as he or she grows up. According to the family dynamic, each child plays a different role in the structure. When a child suffers from an addiction or trauma this influences the entire family, not just the addict or trauma victim. This chapter on Family Roles in Addiction and Trauma explores experientially the different roles we learn as children that we play in the family and how that experience leads to the way we feel and behave in adulthood. This chapter also deals with relationship effectiveness and how to be a more effective communicator.
