ABSTRACT

Radical acceptance is learning to be skillful enough to let things go, like your past, that you cannot change and move forward. It is not about approval or resignation. You don’t have to like what happened in your past, but you also need to move forward in your life. It’s the fundamental principle of Dialectical Behavior Therapy; we accept people or situations the way they are and know that there is always room for improvement. This chapter guides the client through a series of exercises to explore where they are in terms of acceptance of the magnitude of their addiction and trauma.
