ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book analyses of different types of source materials and approaches to the study of varied periods in the Russian past. It focuses on exploration of source materials and containing remarks of a general nature, there is much fresh research contained within the pages of this book. The book contributes a range of people at different stages of their academic careers from the international academic community, and mostly but not wholly by people who are historians by training. It provides a mixture of audiences and demographics. The book appeals to those generally interested in Russian history – readers who have likely come across various secondary works on Russian history but who might not yet have considered the problems of using primary source materials of different types in depth.
