ABSTRACT

The conclusion discusses ways in which individuals can help protect their kids or loved ones from eating disorders. It recommends the following strategies: Don’t talk about your body. Don’t talk about other people’s bodies. Create a family food culture. Exercise without reference to size or shape. Answer children’s questions with questions to clarify their concerns and be responsive without imposing internalized fat bias. The conclusion also addresses issues such as families wanting their children to be healthy and fit and not get teased or bullied, as well as how to implement the recommendations outlined in the conclusion. Ultimately, it encourages families to make their homes, workspaces, and social encounters safe refuges for all bodies. As a physician with eating disorder expertise, I have a responsibility to provide scientifically sound and compassionate care to individuals with diverse bodies.
