ABSTRACT

From the time we are born until we die, we're kept busy with artificial stuff that doesn't matter.- Tom Ford. This chapter helps guide parents in understanding the "big rocks," the concepts and ideas that are the cornerstones for caring about the right things. Caring about the "big rocks" is important because if we don't insist on classrooms that look and feel different from the ones in which we were taught, our children won't be empowered nor have the skills to be highly valuable workers in a globally competitive environment. We want our children to progress through life with ease. We learn that allowing them to make mistakes helps them to build perseverance and determination. We understand that in our role as parents we don't have, nor can we ever have, control of all that affects them as they grow.
