ABSTRACT

Not only the test scores that are the backbone of how schools are defined today, but the data on the culture of school, the leadership of the school, and the vision for where the school is headed. In order to gather this data, parents need to ask the right questions, know the right people at the school, and get involved in the right ways. Asking the right questions doesn't mean accusing. Asking the right questions doesn't mean knowing the answer before we ask the question. Asking the right questions means that we are open to hearing the answer. Schools definitely have a responsibility to bridge the gap between home and school. It should be a top priority for all school leaders to share in a consistent, thoughtful way through a medium that meets the needs of parents. There are times when they believe they are doing so.
