ABSTRACT

The shooting script is the version of the screenplay that film directors take into production. It details the specific shooting strategy they envision for each scene in their film. Master scene shooting technique is an extremely flexible, reliable, and common method. Coverage involves shooting a scene from multiple angles that are, traditionally: the master shot, closer shots of individual characters speaking and reacting, then insert, cutaway, and Point of View shots. Distribute shooting script copies to the core creative team so they can work out what technical resources they will need. Storyboards are drawn in frames that duplicate the aspect ratio of the shooting format and reflect, as precisely as possible, the shot sizes, perspectives, camera angles, characters, and camera movement. Large-budget films often hire storyboard artists whose visual sensibility closely matches the intended style of the film, but others simply make do with quick, basic sketches.
