ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with a look at target marketing for the artist manager followed by the creation of the artist's support team. There are numerous ways to look at segments of a target market. A brand is typically the name of a product that consumers identify with because of the benefits it provides. A key component of branding is image. The booking agent is the individual who connects an artist with most paid performances. The attorney who becomes part of the artist's support team should be an entertainment lawyer and someone who is very familiar with music business. A proprietorship is the initial business form that a solo, self-managed artist typically assumes. Relevant components of the Internet and digital media must be parts of the promotional and career strategies for active participants in the music business. A uniform resource locator is the web address for the artist's website after it has been created and loaded onto a server.
