The growth of advocacy. This chapter discusses the controversial increased activist role taken by some nonprofit organizations, focusing upon the legal differences between what 501(c)(3) charitable organizations can do and what 501(c)(4) “social welfare” groups can do, and why the line between them often seems blurred.
