ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the components of a topic document type in the initial Lightweight DITA (LwDITA) authoring formats, which are based on the Extensible Markup Language (XML), the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), and Markdown. The topic examples are based on the scenario of a chef who wants to publish a promotional brochure for a restaurant franchise. The topic components are organized in basic topic components, table components, highlight components, metadata components, and multimedia components. Each section contains examples in the three initial LwDITA authoring formats. The LwDITA proposed standard allows authors to produce content in their preferred authoring format (XML, HTML5, or Markdown) with the benefit that those formats will be compatible with each other.
