ABSTRACT
Like stone, wood was one of the most important and much used materials in the ancient world, just as it is today. It was valued and utilized in numerous aspects of ancient life. The variety of woods were numerous, task specific, and essential to domestic and international economies. However, unlike stone, wood can be useful for dating purposes using dendrochronology. Some wood types, acquisition, and curing and preparation of timber are discussed in this chapter.
