ABSTRACT

In the twenty-first century, food and food technology is much overlooked and often taken for granted, especially by those who have reliable access to foodstuffs. Nevertheless, the acquisition of food and the preparation, storage, and consumption of it played a crucial role in the rise of civilization. Food technology involves growing plant-based foodstuffs and animal husbandry, which includes growing, tending, and harvesting food sources. This chapter will discuss the shift humanity made from hunter-gatherer to sedentary farmer, the domestication of flora and fauna, and some technological achievements including processing, preservation, storage, preparation, and consumption.
