ABSTRACT
Choosing the appropriate materials for buildings, furniture, fasteners, tools, weapons, and household items was critical. The type, quality, and combination of materials could determine the overall effectiveness and durability of the finished product. This chapter will discuss the use of stone as a construction material in architecture. It will consider the reasons for using stone, quarrying and transportation techniques, masonry methods, and the architecture and layout of structures.
